Robotic Intelligent Assembly Technology and Equipment for Large-scale Aerospace Complex Structures

The high-performance requirements of the new generation aerospace vehicles lead to various material systems , larger and complex component structures . The time-consuming process and the unstable machining quality of the traditional manufacturing methodology are unable to meet the quality and accuracy requirements of rapid-changing aerospace products . It is of great urgency to reform the manufacturing concept . Intelligent manufacturing technology based on industrial robots provides a promising solution for the aerospace industry . Accordingly, it is necessary to break through the corresponding core technologies to ensure the high-precision and efficient mass production of the new generation aerospace products .


This talk will discuss the technical requirements and challenges in the field of high-quality , efficient , and precise robotic manufacturing systems for large and complex aerospace components . The corresponding recent achievements of our group will be presented, including error - similarity - based accuracy compensation , multibody transfer matrix dynamics modeling , and machining chatter suppression , multi-source online sensing fusion-based self-adaptation process, and multifunctional end effectors for the robotic manufacturing system . In addition , the task allocation and cooperative control methods of multi-mobile robotic intelligent manufacturing systems will be introduced. Finally, the talk will give a forecast of potential and emerging robotic manufacturing and assembly technologies and portraits for the aerospace industry.





Introduction of Prof. Tian

Wei Tian received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Nanjing university of science and technology in 2006. Currently, he is a professor and Associate Dean with the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was rewarded first-prize of the National Defense Science and Technology Progress and Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress in 2020 and 2018 respectively.


His research interest focuses on robotic intelligent assembly technology and equipment in aerospace applications . He has accomplished more than 30 scientific research and development projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Key R&D Program of China. He has published more than 130 papers , 2 academic monographs , and 43 authorized invention patents.


Currently, Prof. Tian is the director of the Engineering Research Center of High Efficiency and Precision Machining & Equipment Technology and is also a member of the Committee of Aerospace Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Innovation Alliance. Prof. Tian was successively listed as the young and middle-aged academic leader of the "Blue Project" in Jiangsu Province, and regarded as training objects of the fifth period of Jiangsu Province "333 Project".
